Viking Family,

Welcome Vikings to the 2022-2023 school year! I am so excited to be at Walker Middle School as your proud Principal. In 1980 I became a teacher with Orange County Public Schools at Meadowbrook Jr. High School. As Jr. Highs moved to Middle Schools I moved also to Apopka High School As a teacher and coach in 1987. From there I moved to Boone High School in 1995 as an Assistant Principal. In 2000 I was given the opportunity to Be Principal of Apopka Memorial Middle School. 2007 I became the Principal of University High School for three years then on to Apopka High School for the next six years. I opened Windermere High School starting 2016 and retired from OCPS in 2021. After a year of relaxing, I missed the students and calling of education and decided to return to OCPS. My ultimate goal for all our students is for them to leave as WMS as strong high school students who will be graduates with strong post-secondary plans. It is also my hope that every student finds a way to connect at Walker Middle School. I want every student to truly enjoy their middle school experience.

This year, I will continue to support our commitment to excellence in all that we do as we seek to provide world class instruction and opportunities for our students to build lifelong relationships and memories. I am enthusiastic about all that this new school year has to offer and look forward to working collectively as a family to ensure that our students are provided with the best educational and campus life experience possible. I am excited to be a Viking!

Parents, please consider the following requests in order to help us support your child:
• Monitor your child’s progress weekly in Skyward and monitor Canvas. If they need support, parents reach out to teachers and ask how you can help. Also, have students participate in tutoring opportunities.
• Encourage your child to find an activity they enjoy and be part of the bigger community at Walker Middle School. Your child should set a goal to join a club, try-out for sports, or participate in our performing or visual arts programs. Once your child joins, then become involved yourself.
• As always, join PTSA and SAC. Your support is valuable to us.
Walker Middle School is filled with spirit and pride. The atmosphere is alive with electrifying expectations. We challenge each person to do a little more than usual and give more than ever before. We ask our community to continue supporting our school's endeavors and celebrate in our achievements.
